Key financial figures alone are not enough to manage a company. Soft factors, too, must be measurable and quantifiable, as well as presented in an understandable way so that they can be effectively communicated. You can achieve this simply by using a balanced scorecard.

You can achieve this simply by using a balanced scorecard. On the basis of the mission statement, you and your management team work out the strategic objectives and then establish the cause and effect relationships. With the BSC, you break down the main objectives until they are formulated in a way which allows them to result in target agreements and actions with measurable outcomes.

This makes it possible for you to strategically manage your entire area of responsibility and identify any need for action. Your employees are provided with a direct connection between vision and mission leading to a verifiable agreement [8] – making sense and fostering understanding.

EFQM model

The European Foundation for Quality Mangagement (EFQM) model has become a recognized instrument of corporate appraisal and focus in recent years. Its central premise is to achieve excellent results thanks to all-round quality.

The European Foundation for Quality Mangagement (EFQM) model has become a recognized instrument of corporate appraisal and focus in recent years. Its central premise is to achieve excellent results thanks to all-round quality.

Using a self-appraisal process, you have the opportunity to gain a full picture of the general state of your company or department at a defined point in time. This picture gives you valuable feedback on the effectiveness of processes across the organization and is a key driver of improvement.

The underlying principle of the EFQM model is based on nine criteria which are either enablers or results. Five “enabler criteria” cover what your organization does and how it does it, while four “results criteria” cover what your company achieves. This makes it possible for you to compare your company with the best in the world.
